Case Study - Battersea
Legacy Flat New Build Transformation Project
Ana and Andre were looking to transform their new two-bedroom flat in Battersea. The flat was a new build and didn’t have much character which both clients wanted to be reflected in the design. Although there was lots of storage in this new build flat it lacked any features and storage for such a fast collection of their books. The space was not functional and lacked warmth to create a welcoming space and we were looking to incorporate muted colour tones to create a cosy atmosphere and we were really looking to boost the wow factor with adding features to their new build home.
Living right in the hub of Battersea, they wished for a warm and cosy contemporary space with feature solutions to make their flat stand out from the rest. Their aim was to create a home that could provide the test of time for their family to grow and have a study that would later be used as a children’s nursery.
The Budget:
- Installation of bespoke storage and features.
- Complete revamp for a cosy, modern contemporary look.
- Custom joinery for the master bedroom, feature wall panelling
- Custom joinery for the living room, Tv unit with bookshelves
- Custom joinery for the office, feature wall panelling
- Windows: Window treatments (curtains) throughout.
- Painting: Painted all rooms, with a neutral palette.
- Wall paper: Wallpaper in the office to serve as a dual function nursery.
- Selection of contemporary furniture, lighting, and accessories.
What we did:
Concept / layout
- We started with an online consultation and questionnaire, diving into Ana and Andre’s design preferences, concerns, and stresses. During our call, we scheduled a property visit to further explore their issues and discuss how I could help alleviate their worries.
- After visiting, an initial mood board was created to make the design style was aligned
Design Development
01. Design
- We created a full home design which included bespoke joinery, redecoration, new windows treatments, new furniture throughout.
- We cleverly decided to add extra storage and unique features, we transformed the TV storage and palette walls into standout elements. By incorporating colour and texture, we created eye-catching joinery that distinguishes the flat from other new builds in the area.
- Once the clients were happy overall, we finalised the design with ‘visuals’ to help the clients see the space as a whole. During this time a sample pack was sent to help them see and feel all the materials & fittings and understand how they would actually look in their home
- When signed off, we started planning the works and general project management.
02. Project Management / Construction
- We created detailed drawings and work descriptions to handover to our trusted trades and gathered quotes for the clients so they didn’t have to deal with the overwhelm of searching for reliable trades.
- We wanted to create a turn-key service for the client that was as stress-free as possible so full project management on-site from concept to completion was provided, this included weekly site visits.
03. Sourcing & Styling
- Since Ana and Andre found revamping their home alone was overwhelming, we handled all the stress by sourcing all furniture and fittings for them, passing on exclusive trade discounts.
- To complete the transformation, we returned for a final styling day, ensuring the space looked pristine before the clients moved back in.
04. The results:
Ana and Andre’s home was completely transformed into a warm, cosy, and inviting space. The new design not only added vibrant features and ample storage for their book collection but also created a unique and stylish feel they always wanted. We designed an office that could easily transition into a nursery, complete with additional wallpaper, making it ready for their future plans of growing their family.
05. The impact:
Ana and Andre loved the results. They appreciated how each room seamlessly intertwined, achieving the cosy feel with the muted, natural palette they always wanted. The flat met their needs for a timeless design that would work for their expanding family in the future in Battersea.
