Case Study - Wimbledon
Wimbledon Home Refresh Project
Sarah was eager to refresh her first home in Wimbledon, moving away from the collection of items gathered during her renting years that didn’t quite fit her Victorian home. She wanted to embrace a classic modern rustic style, similar to Studio McGee’s designs, which would beautifully complement the lush, green surroundings of Wimbledon.
The living room was a mix of mismatched furniture that lacked cohesion and comfort, making it a space that didn’t feel inviting to relax. Her office needed a smart redesign to double as a guest room, accommodating Sarah’s needs for a functional workspace and if friends and family were to stay. The goal was to transform her home into a cohesive and inviting sanctuary that truly reflects her style while enhancing the charm of her Victorian property.
The Budget:
- Installation of bespoke storage and features
- Custom joinery for the guest bedroom - Desk office area with storage
- Space Optimisation: Clever layout design incorporating sofa bed as well as working space
- Living Room Transformation: Reimagining the space with cohesive and inviting furniture arrangements to create a relaxing atmosphere
- Lighting Design: Installation of layered lighting, including ambient and task lighting, to enhance the functionality and mood of each space
- Material Selection: Incorporation of natural textures and finishes that align with the classic modern rustic style, such as wood, stone, and warm textiles
- Styling and Decor: Addition of curated decor elements and artwork to reflect Sarah's personal style and tie the rooms together
What we did:
Concept / layout
- We began with an online consultation and questionnaire to explore Sarah’s vision, design preferences, and challenges with her Victorian home in Wimbledon. On the call, we scheduled a property visit to better understand her needs and how we could help create a space reflecting her desired classic modern rustic style, inspired by Studio McGee.
- Following the visit, we developed an initial mood board to ensure our design approach was aligned with her vision.
- A functional layout was then produced to optimise her home, focusing on the living room and dual-function office/guest room.
Design Development
01. Design
- The full home refresh included new furniture, bespoke joinery, and thoughtful redecoration.
In the living room, we added textured pieces, plants, and artwork to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. - For the office, we transformed the space by removing the middle section of the wardrobe and fitting a bespoke desk area, making room for a sofa guest bed.To align with Sarah’s classic rustic aesthetic, all wardrobe doors were updated to complement the home’s Victorian charm.
- Throughout the design, we incorporated woods, natural materials, and layered lighting to enhance the mood of each space.
- Once Sarah approved the design, we finalised it with visuals and provided a sample pack to help her envision the materials and fittings in her home.
02. Project Management / Construction
- We provided a full on-site service, handling all aspects of project management from concept to completion. Detailed drawings and work descriptions were created for our trusted tradespeople, and we managed the entire process, including sourcing quotes and coordinating with trades to complete the work.
- This turn-key service ensured a stress-free experience for Sarah, allowing her to focus on enjoying her new space.
03. Sourcing & Styling
- Understanding the overwhelming nature of a home refresh, we managed all sourcing of furniture and fittings, passing on exclusive trade discounts to Sarah.
- We returned for a final styling day to ensure every detail was perfect, creating a space that was both functional and beautiful.
04. The results:
Sarah’s Wimbledon home was transformed into a warm, inviting space that beautifully reflected her classic modern rustic style. The new design maximised functionality, with bespoke joinery and dual-purpose rooms enhancing the overall layout.
